What is the CELPIP test and who needs it?
CELPIP (Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program) is a Canadian English language test accepted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for permanent residency, Express Entry, and citizenship applications. It is also accepted by many Canadian professional bodies.
The test covers four skills — listening, reading, writing and speaking — entirely computer-delivered and in a Canadian English context. Results are typically available within 4–5 business days.
CELPIP is an alternative to IELTS for Canadian immigration. Many candidates find it more straightforward because there is no in-person speaking component — speaking is recorded via computer.
