The short answer

Study in Egypt from Nigeria — what it actually is

Nigerian students can earn a University of Hertfordshire UK degree without studying in the UK. The University of Hertfordshire works with its Egyptian partner, Global Academic Foundation (GAF), to deliver Hertfordshire degrees in Egypt under Egypt’s international Branch Campus Law 162. The campus sits in the New Administrative Capital in Cairo, welcomed its first cohort in 2019, and now has over 2,800 students across 12 academic programmes. Students in Egypt follow programmes with the same learning outcomes as their UK counterparts and graduate with a UK degree while based in Egypt.

That is the factual core, taken from the University of Hertfordshire’s own published description of the partnership. Everything else on this page — programmes, fees, entry route, visa position — is set out below with the same discipline: what the universities publish, and where the answer genuinely depends on your individual file.

Galaxy UniPrep Centre in Abuja works with the University of Hertfordshire in Egypt and is the exclusive admission partner of Nigerian Turkish International Colleges (NTIC). We assess your results, confirm which entry route applies to you, submit the application and follow it to enrolment. There is no charge to the student for that work.

NTIC students visit the University of Hertfordshire campus in Egypt

NTIC students on a campus tour at the University of Hertfordshire in Egypt — study in Egypt from Nigeria with Galaxy UniPrep
NTIC students during their campus tour at the University of Hertfordshire in Egypt, organised by Galaxy UniPrep.

NTIC students are broadening their horizons through a campus tour in Egypt, gaining first-hand exposure to an international learning environment at the University of Hertfordshire.

As the exclusive admission partner of NTIC, and in collaboration with the University of Hertfordshire in Egypt, Galaxy UniPrep organised this visit for the students. The tour gave them a direct look at the campus and the chance to speak with staff and students about what studying there involves day to day.

Campus visits matter because they turn an abstract decision into a concrete one. Students who have walked a campus ask sharper questions, choose programmes with more confidence, and arrive better prepared. Galaxy UniPrep runs these visits so that families in Nigeria decide on evidence rather than assumption.

Here’s to new experiences, meaningful connections and a brighter global future. 🌍

Entry route

How Nigerian students enter — the International Foundation Programme

This is the part most agents get wrong, so read it carefully. It is also the part that decides your timeline.

Progression

Foundation certificate → Level 4

To move onto your chosen degree you must meet the progression requirements published for that programme. Once you earn the foundation certificate, you move automatically to Level 4 — the first year of the degree itself.

Alternative

Direct entry to Level 4

UH-GAF publishes a separate set of admission requirements for direct entry to Level 4, alongside its standard requirements. Whether your qualifications meet them is an individual assessment, not a general rule.

Your qualifications

What about WAEC and NECO?

UH-GAF states that all students are welcome to apply, and that admission requirements vary by the type of high school diploma and may change from one year to another. There is no fixed published WAEC grade table — so we check your file against the current requirements rather than promise you a grade threshold.

English

IELTS, TOEFL or PTE

Your English test score determines your academic English placement in the foundation year. Galaxy UniPrep offers IELTS preparation in Abuja and is a test centre for TOEFL, so preparation and application can run in parallel.

Funding

Scholarships

UH-GAF runs a scholarship scheme including merit, sports, early bird and STEM awards, and states that tailored scholarships are available for all programmes. Eligibility and award levels are set by the university.

Programmes

Every University of Hertfordshire programme available in Egypt

This is the course list published by the University of Hertfordshire for its Global Academic Foundation campus. The university notes that further programmes may be added in later years by agreement between both sides — so confirm availability for your intake before you commit.

Egypt campus vs UK campus

Same university, two campuses — how they compare

The most useful comparison is not Egypt against “the UK” in the abstract. It is the same university’s two campuses, side by side, using each campus’s own published figures.

FactorEgypt campus (UH-GAF, Cairo)UK campus (Hatfield)
Degree awarded byUniversity of Hertfordshire, UKUniversity of Hertfordshire, UK
Published tuition£13,500 per year, all six schools£15,965 per year, standard undergraduate, 2025–26 intake
Visa financial evidenceNot part of the Egyptian entry visa process described by the universityUK Student visa requires proof of living-cost funds held for 28 consecutive days, on top of tuition
First-year entry pointInternational Foundation Programme, with a separate direct entry to Level 4 routeDirect entry or a foundation year, depending on qualifications

Cross-campus studyA semester or a full academic year in the UK through the study abroad exchange agreementHome campus
Master’s progressionUH-GAF graduates receive a 20% fee reduction for a master’s at UH in the UKStandard postgraduate fees apply

Figures are as published by the two campuses at the time of writing and are revised each academic year. The tuition gap is real but moderate — the larger difference for most Nigerian families is living costs and the absence of a UK-style maintenance funds requirement, not the tuition line itself. Ask Galaxy UniPrep for the current figures for your intake before making a decision.

The campus

What is actually on the Cairo campus

Published by the University of Hertfordshire and UH-GAF. If a detail matters to your decision, the university runs a virtual tour and open days.

Teaching facilities

22 buildings across the 50-acre site, with 32 classrooms and 12 laboratories, a lecture theatre, library and seminar rooms.

Sport

A football court, tennis court, multipurpose court and gym.

Accommodation

UH-GAF operates a dormitory facility on campus, inaugurated in September 2025, alongside off-campus options in the surrounding area.

Transport

The university runs a bus service to locations across greater Cairo. The campus is around 25 minutes from the Fifth Settlement, Madinaty and El Shorouk.

Catering

A food court with several food and beverage outlets, plus a cafeteria and student lounges.

Address

Plot Code 6, R5, New Administrative Capital, Egypt. The admissions office works Sunday to Thursday, 9am to 4pm — note the Egyptian working week when you plan calls.

Visa

The visa position for Nigerian passport holders

UH-GAF advises international students to obtain an entry visa through the Egyptian embassy or consulate in their home country, typically valid for up to 30 days. It states that visa on arrival at Cairo International Airport is available for students from North America, Europe, the United Kingdom and Australia, and that citizens of certain countries must obtain a visa before arrival. Nigeria is not in the visa-on-arrival group listed, so Nigerian applicants should plan to obtain the visa in advance through the Egyptian Embassy in Abuja, and apply several weeks before travelling.

Immigration rules change without notice and the university publishes its own visa information document for international students. Galaxy UniPrep helps you assemble the document file and points you to the current official guidance — but the Egyptian Embassy is the only authority on what is required on the day you apply. Any agent who guarantees you a visa is not being straight with you.

Application process

How to apply, step by step

  1. Free consultation

Meet Galaxy UniPrep at our Abuja centre or online. We review your WAEC or NECO results, your budget and your career plan, and we tell you honestly whether Egypt is your best option or whether another route fits better.

  2. Programme and route check

We match you to a programme from the published list and establish which entry route applies — the International Foundation Programme or direct entry to Level 4 — against the university’s current requirements.

  3. English test

Your IELTS, TOEFL or PTE score sets your academic English placement. If you need to prepare or sit a test, you can do both with us in Abuja.

  4. Documents and application

Result statements, international passport, photographs and any programme-specific documents. Galaxy submits the application and follows it up until a decision is issued.

  5. Offer, scholarship and fees

You review the offer, we check whether any of the university’s scholarship categories apply to you, and you pay the required amount directly to the university.

  6. Visa and travel

We help you prepare the entry visa file for the Egyptian Embassy in Abuja and brief you on accommodation, arrival and registration in Cairo.

Egypt is one option among many — and not always the right one

Galaxy UniPrep supports admissions to more than 700 universities across the UK, USA, Canada, Turkey, Australia, Egypt and Europe, and works with pathway providers including Study Group, Navitas, ONCAMPUS and Oxford International, plus our exclusive UK foundation partnership with North London Grammar School. If your results and budget point somewhere other than Egypt, we will say so.

IELTS and TOEFL in the same building

Because your English score affects your placement in the foundation year, it is worth preparing properly rather than sitting the test cold. Galaxy UniPrep offers IELTS preparation and official IELTS registration, and as an ETS Authorized Test Centre you can also sit the TOEFL iBT with us in Abuja.

We tell you what we do not know

Tuition changes annually. Visa rules change without notice. Programme availability changes by intake. Professional licensing in Nigeria depends on your field and on the relevant regulator, not on us. On each of these we give you the current published position and the official source — not a guarantee dressed up as advice.

Frequently asked questions

Studying in Egypt from Nigeria — common questions

Can Nigerian students study in Egypt and receive a UK degree?

Yes. The University of Hertfordshire works with Global Academic Foundation to deliver Hertfordshire degrees in Egypt under Egypt’s international Branch Campus Law 162. The 50-acre campus in Cairo’s New Administrative Capital took its first cohort in 2019. The university states that students in Egypt follow programmes with the same learning outcomes as their UK colleagues and graduate with a UK degree while based in Egypt.

How much is tuition, and is it really cheaper than the UK?

UH-GAF publishes an international student fee of £13,500 per year across all six schools. The University of Hertfordshire’s published standard international undergraduate fee at the UK campus for the 2025–26 intake was £15,965 per year. So on tuition alone the gap is real but moderate — roughly £2,500 a year. The bigger difference for most families is living costs in Cairo versus the UK, and the fact that the Egyptian entry visa process does not involve the UK Student visa’s maintenance funds requirement. Both figures are revised annually; ask us for the current numbers.

Are WAEC or NECO results accepted?

UH-GAF states that all students are welcome to apply and that admission requirements vary by the type of high school diploma and may change from one year to another. It does not publish a fixed WAEC or NECO grade table, so anyone quoting you one is guessing. The reliable answer for your file comes from checking your results against the university’s current published requirements — which is exactly what we do in a free consultation.

Do I start the degree straight away?

UH-GAF states that the International Foundation Programme is the entry point for all first-year students. In that year you take specialist modules plus academic English, placed according to your IELTS, TOEFL or PTE score. Meeting the progression requirements for your chosen programme earns you the foundation certificate and moves you to Level 4. The university also publishes a separate direct entry to Level 4 route, so whether you can skip the foundation year depends on your specific qualifications.

Do Nigerian students need a visa before travelling?

Plan on yes. UH-GAF advises international students to obtain an entry visa through the Egyptian embassy or consulate in their home country, typically valid for up to 30 days, and lists visa on arrival at Cairo as available to students from North America, Europe, the UK and Australia — with citizens of certain other countries required to obtain a visa before arrival. Nigeria is not in the visa-on-arrival group listed. Apply through the Egyptian Embassy in Abuja several weeks ahead, and confirm current requirements with the embassy directly.

Can I spend time at the UK campus?

The University of Hertfordshire states that UH-GAF students have the opportunity to spend a semester or a full academic year at the UK campus through a study abroad exchange agreement. UH-GAF also states that its graduates receive a 20% fee reduction on a master’s degree at the University of Hertfordshire in the UK. Conditions are set by the university — ask for the current terms for your programme.

Will the degree work for me back in Nigeria?

The award is a University of Hertfordshire UK degree. What varies is professional practice: fields such as pharmacy, physiotherapy and engineering are regulated in Nigeria by their own councils, each with its own rules on foreign-trained graduates, and those rules can change. We will not give you a blanket assurance on this. If you intend to practise in a regulated profession in Nigeria, check the position with the relevant Nigerian regulator before you enrol — and tell us your plan so we can factor it into the programme choice.

What does Galaxy UniPrep charge?

Nothing for the admission service — consultation, programme selection, application and offer follow-up are free to the student. University fees are paid directly to the university. Galaxy UniPrep has operated since 2008 with offices in Abuja and Lagos, and is the exclusive admission partner of NTIC. Exam preparation and test registration are separate services.
